Fall Social, Officer Installation, and Program Launch
For the first time since 2019, the Southern Nevada Chapter of the American Guild of Organists held its annual fall social. This year, the fall social was held at the Spring Valley Stake Center. The Spring Valley Stake Center features a recently “refreshed” Wicks organ that is not hybrid with a digital augmentation.
The program featured opening remarks from Spring Valley Stake President Mendenhall. Outgoing Dean Steve Wright presented Dr. David Dorway a certificate of gratitude for his thirteen years of dedicated service as treasurer of the chapter. David’s term ended in 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we has never formally recognized for his service. The Rev. Michael Link served as officiant for the installation of our new officers.
Next, our Dean, William Freeman, presented information on the upcoming program season. This coming year, there will be a renewed focus on professional development opportunities for current in-service organists and choirmasters. Additionally, the chapter will be working on cultivating the next generation of organists. The chapter plans to hold more regular meetings and social events.
Paul Hesselink, interim chair of the Recital Committee, presented information pertaining to our upcoming recital series. For more information on the recital series, please click here.
Chapter member Brenna Schelin presented a brief program featuring popular organ favorites on the recently refreshed Wicks-Rodgers hybrid organ. Following her program, Christian Lentz demonstrated different concepts on the hybrid organ. Under Christian’s leadership, the organ was restored to its full beauty.
