Guardian Angel Cathedral Turns 60
On October 2, 2023, the Feast of the Guardian Angels, the Roman Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral will turn 60.
Completed in 1963, Guardian Angel Cathedral has been serving millions over the years as one of the few houses of worship on the iconic Las Vegas Strip. Designed by renowned architect Paul Revere Williams, the Cathedral was built on land donated by casino mobster Moe Dalitz.
For over thirty years, Debbie Cenna served as the Director of Music at Guardian Angel Cathedral. She was assisted for many of those years by long time Guild members Arthur Nelson and Carol Blanton.
To commemorate the 60th anniversary, Guardian Angel Cathedral invited choristers from Catholic and other faith communities across the Las Vegas community to participate in a pick-up choir that recorded a 60th anniversary video. Choristers from nearly every parish of the Archdiocese of Las Vegas and several LDS wards participated.
Chapter members Fr. Bob Stoeckig, William Paul Freeman, and Bob Grant participated in the project.
Fr. Bob Stoeckig, Rector, served as the conductor the pick-up choir. Chapter Dean, William Paul Freeman, and Director of Music/Organist at the Cathedral, was the organist and prepared the choir in the months leading up to the recording.
The 40 minute video entitled, “In the Sight of the Angels" was posted on YouTube.
